Her mother is Cynthia Louise Bissett vice president of mobile company Verizon. Her father was businessman Joseph Anthony Germanotta Jr. Director of an Internet-based networking company. She was raised in the exclusive Upper East Side of Manhattan within a Catholic family. For this reason the parents of her enrolled her at the Convent of the Sacred Heart a religious and elitist school. Her love of music began as a small child. She learned piano and at the age of 13she composed her first track. Nights at open mics were her favorite. Her favorite artists were David Bowie, Madonna and Michael Jackson. She studied music in the Tisch School of Art of New York University after completing her high school education. After high school, however she enrolled in The Tisch School of Fine Arts at New York University to learn about music.
